Description
Light brown calf-length woollen breeches worn by Jeremy Bentham's Auto-Icon.
The fabric has a raised twill weave, and the stitching is in brown and cream silk thread. The legs are tapered with three buttons at each knee opening. The buttons are covered in the same light brown wool and the six pockets are made of white cotton. The breeches have a fall front opening with two buttons either side to close the flap and three buttons to close the centre front of the waistband. There is a scalloped gusset in the back held in with white cotton tape to make the waist adjustable.
There is a v-shaped cut in the seat of the breeches to allow the Auto-Icon to be mounted on the chair. Several modern patch repairs have been made stabilising areas of insect damage.
