Scarifier - brass box shaped object - in a black, possibly leather box. Shaped like a square with the corners cut off. Base has 4 slots. When trigger is pulled back 4 oval shaped blades come out. Top of 'box' has silver coloured trigger and a brass 'knob' or screw. The sides have another, smaller brass knob or screw (possibly just a button?). The box appears to be in two parts, that are held together with screws from the sides. The upper part of the box, with trigger etc, fits into the lower section. The small sides of the box have two 'arrows' coming from the lower section to the upper, which have the screws going through them to attached the two parts together. The box is black on the outside, possibly leather or another type of skin. It has two brass hooks for securing lid, and two brass hinges. There is damage to the underside of the box, and marks all over. Wood can be seen through cracks in the leather (?) and where some parts are missing. The inside of the box is lined with felt that is a badly faded red. The lid of the box is a satin type material, again red (not as badly faded). Around the edges is stitched cotton, again a faded red colour. At the base of the box is a paper note with black ink that reads - 'xxxx' and a loose piece of cotton ending. There is another more recent typewritten note, folded in half (see labels section).
