Beschreibung
Ivory decorative spinning distaff or 'fingerkunkel', previously believed to be a cosmetic object of uncertain function, with a plain central handle. Comparisons with an example found in the Terrace House 2 at Ephesus and in a grave at Zurzach, Switzerland confirm this identification. Ending at one end in a schematically sculpted figure of a naked female with one hand to legs, other to breasts, with incised lines indicating hair (Aphrodite); the other end consists of a loop with forked finial. One side of figure and handle broken away.
