The image depicts Davy, three-quarter length and seated at his desk with his hand on an open book, facing the right.
The image is mounted on off-white paper that is held within a gilded wooden slipframe, which is in turn held by a plain wooden frame, the image is protected by a glass screen. The frame is falling apart- the backing is actively deteriorating.
