Four legged desk, roughy square, lip runs around the desktop, however two of these (the smaller two) are missing. 'front' of desk has a hole for medallian. Two small chunks are missing from desktop.
Desk used for working with mercury, hence the lip. Surface likly to be contaminated with mercury.
Medallion obverse shows Ramsay in profile, facing left with a laurel branch and tourch next to him. Reverse is quite worn, and shows a woman (one of the muses?) sitting infront of a desk full of chemical apparatus. The design also includes an hour glass and a bulb with lines eminating from it.
