Samples of rope: 1) Rush? thrice doubled giving 8 strands. 2) Two strands, 1.5 cm. diameter. Flax?/palm fibre?. 3) Flax/palm fibre? two strands, 1.0 cm. diameter. 4) Flax?/palm fibre? two strands, 0.8 cm. diameter. 5) Flax?/palm fibre? two strands, 0.4 cm. diameter. 6) Flax?/palm fibre? single ,strand, c.1.0 cm. diameter. 7) ? two strands, c. 0.2 cm. diameter. On analysis by Hero Granger-Taylor, 1995, UC 7508iii proved to be knotted rope made up of multiple individual linen threads: spliced, S-twisted, multiple Z-plied and two S-plied, with in one of the Z-plied elements about 135 separate threads counted giving a total in the rope of about 270 separate threads.
