Black wool tailcoat worn by Jeremy Bentham's Auto-Icon.
The tailcoat is made of a woollen twill fabric with a cotton lining for the body of the coat and silk lining for the cuffs. It has 7 buttons, squared tails and narrow sleeves with two buttons on each cuff. The back is narrow with curved side panels and the tails are vented with a pleat and button at the bottom. The side pockets are decorative only, but there are deep internal pockets inside both front panels. There is a handwritten tape label in the shoulder seam.
There are many small holes from insect damage, these have been stabilised with conservation repairs.
