The cup resembles a small teapot with a spout and a handle. The handle is to one side, at a 90 degree angle to the spout (9 o'clock if teh spout is at 12). Unlike a teapot, half of the cup's mouth is covered with a mouthguard to prevent the cup's contents from spilling during pouring. The base of the cup is stamped with the words 'Made in England'.
The cup was acquired with its original packaging, a brown rectangular cardboard box with a grey paper label on the lid. The box has 6 metal staples on teh body and 4 on the lid, all show signs of damage. The label has the maker's logo, 'Ayrtons Liverpool' and reads 'EARTHENWARE FEEDING CUP / Size Medium / AYRTON, SAUNDERS & CO. LTD. / Manufacturing Chemists, LIVERPOOL, England'
