scarabs
Описание
Body scarab, silver plate on brown quartz, inscribed in hieroglyphs with name of king Akhenaten. Bought by Flinders Petrie on the road to Cairo prior to 1915. Metal of the plate identified as modern in 1985 analysis at the British Museum. Scarab perhaps ancient though material is exceptional.
Bought by Petrie from a dealer on the road to Cairo. Petrie writes in the 1915 issue, p.168 of his 'Ancient Egypt' journal that it was from “an old dealer from Mellawi brought a handful of scarabs one day: among them lay the heart scarab of Akhenaten, which he only regarded as being big and having silver plate” [AS 21/07/2015]
