These skulls (see also UCL.16.009) have been cut coronally (across the top) and sagittally (down the middle), allowing you to open them and look inside. Before the ready availability of plastic teaching models, it was usual for medical professionals and students to use real human bones to study anatomy. Plastic teaching models represent an ideal form, unlike these models, where real bodies have come to represent themselves.
